AbstractA slim fiber laser vector hydrophone with a sensitivity-enhanced flexed beam configuration was presented to satisfy the demands of the slim vector hydrophone array. The sensitivity and resonant frequency of this configuration was calculated by the elastic mechanics and vibration theory. Compared with some existing configurations, the key factor that influences the sensitivity and resonant frequency was found out and some discussion on enhancing the sensitivity without reducing the resonant frequency was carried out. A3D finite element method(FEM) simulation and analysis of the configuration were performed in ANSYS. The simulation result revises the factor in the theoretical analysis and gives a recalculated sensitivity of81.3 pm/g with a resonant frequency of250 Hz of the novel fiber laser vector hydrophone. The flexed beam configuration is shown to give the highest sensitivity under resonant frequency of250 Hz of the four designs considered in this paper.
