AbstractIn order to realize the application of the chip-to-chip high speed optical interconnection, the authors of the paper designed a12-channel high density and high speed parallel optical interconnection subsystem, using a vertical-cavity surface-emitting laser(VCSEL) array as the optical source, and a PIN array as the optical detector. The subsystem was modulated up to6 Gbps/ch and operated at a zero bit-error rate over a transmission distance of1 m through the12-channel standard-grade multimode fiber(MMF) ribbon. The rise time(F1) of the signal at the receiver output was about91 ps and the total jitter(Tj) was about75.6 ps.
