AbstractIn this paper, a12-channel parallel optical receiver module with each channel's data rate up to3.318 Gbit/s is designed and fabricated. An850 nm GaAs photodetector(PD) array is adopted as the receiver device, and the PD chip is directly wire bonded to a12-channel high speed IC. The inputs of the PD array are directly coupled into a12-channel fiber array. We developed a new technology using jointing machine to couple the PD array with fiber array without power supply. The efficiency is80% and the error of coupling is less than1μm. The total data rate of the receiver module is more than40 Gbit/s.
